Fresh Basin

Skip the plumber’s quote. It is four steps.

For anyone who has put off a bidet over the plumbing: what the kit is, the four steps, and the parts of the job the videos skip.

Paper alone

You know the word for it. Paper does nothing about it.

If you have ever stood up from a long sit and felt it, you know the word for it, and you know paper does nothing about it.

  • A man in a light blue shirt, seen from behind, standing up from his desk chair on a hot afternoon, a fan and a glass of iced water on the desk

The long sit. You stand up, and you feel it.

  • A hand pulling a long ribbon of toilet paper off the roll, already wound into a thick wad around the fingers

Wipe, and wipe, and wipe. Paper moves things around and leaves crumbs behind.

  • An empty cardboard tube on the roll holder beside a toilet, a new multi-pack of toilet rolls on the floor

The last roll, again. Restock the paper, or get a sprayer.

Then, halfway through the afternoon, the thought: am I clean? Water ends all three. A quick rinse with cold water, then a couple of squares to pat dry.

If you have wanted a bidet for ages and the plumbing is what stopped you, you are not alone. Under the install videos, people say the same thing:

Handyman was charging me $400 to install four bidet sprayers.

I called my plumber to see how much he would charge ... he said 85.00.

I bought 4 toilet bidet and it’s been 6 months sitting in my house because I don’t know how to install.

And under the same videos, from people who then did it:

never thought it is that simple to install a bidet.

A handheld sprayer is not a plumbing job. It is one valve and one hose on the line that already fills your toilet tank.

Here is our difference

One valve, one hose, your own line.

  • The T-valve fitted under the tank, the supply line into its bottom and the coiled hose from its side

It runs off your tank’s own line.

One small T-valve splits the cold water two ways: to the tank as before, and to the sprayer.

  • The sprayer head close up: the round nozzle face and the trigger lever

    A light press is plenty.

The trigger sits under your finger. The water is cold, straight from the tank’s line, so start light.

  • The holder on its adhesive plate pressed flat onto white tile

    Pressed on, not drilled.

The holder’s adhesive plate goes onto tile or a painted wall, beside the tank, where your hand finds it.

  • The small lever on the T-valve under the tank

A lever for the sprayer side.

The small lever on the T-valve opens and shuts the sprayer side. Shut it when you are done.

Four parts, and no plumber required

Four parts: the sprayer, a coiled hose, a T-valve and a wall holder with an adhesive plate.

The T-valve goes where the supply hose meets the bottom of your tank. It splits the cold water two ways: to the tank as before, and to the sprayer. Nothing is cut or drilled for the valve. No heater, nothing to plug in.

The four parts of the kit laid out on a stone counter: the chrome sprayer, the grey coiled hose, the T-valve and the wall holder on its adhesive plate
The four parts: sprayer, coiled hose, T-valve, wall holder.

The whole job, start to finish

  1. Drawing: the small valve on the wall turned to off, and the flush lever pressed

    1

Water off, then flush. Turn the small valve on the wall behind the toilet all the way off. Flush once to empty the tank. Put a towel on the floor under the tank.

  2. Drawing: the supply hose nut unscrewed from the bottom of the tank, a few drips onto the towel

    2

Unscrew the supply hose where it meets the bottom of the tank. A little water will drip out. That is what the towel is for.

  3. Drawing: the T-valve on the tank inlet, the supply hose on its bottom, the coiled hose on its side port

    3

Fit the T-valve and the hose. Screw the T-valve’s top nut onto the tank inlet, and the supply hose onto the bottom of the T-valve. Then the coiled hose onto the side port, and the sprayer onto the end of the hose.

  4. Drawing: the holder on the wall beside the tank, the sprayer seated in it, the coiled hose hanging below

    4

Holder up, water on, check. Press the holder’s adhesive plate onto tile or a painted wall beside the tank. Turn the wall valve back on, slowly. Let the tank fill, and check every joint for drips.

The step-by-step install card with drawings shows each step. It lands in your inbox the day your order ships, so you have read it before the box arrives.

Four steps. One towel.

    Water off, then flush

Turn the small valve on the wall behind the toilet all the way off. Flush once. Towel down.

  2. A hand unscrewing the supply hose from the bottom of the tank, a few drops falling onto the towel2

    Unscrew the supply hose

Where it meets the bottom of the tank. A little water drips out. That is what the towel is for.

  3. Two hands screwing the chrome T-valve onto the tank inlet by hand3

Fit the T-valve and the hose

T-valve onto the tank, supply hose onto its bottom, coiled hose onto its side. Hand-tight first.

  4. A hand pressing the holder plate flat onto white tile beside the tank4

    Holder up, water on, check

Press the holder on. Turn the water back on slowly and check every joint for drips.

A wrench comes out only if a joint weeps, and then only a quarter turn. Check every joint again after a week.

The parts of the job nobody films

The videos make it look like one take. Here is what they skip.

The wall valve has to turn off. If yours has not been touched in years, try it before the box arrives.

Every joint goes on hand-tight first. A wrench comes out only if a joint weeps, and then only a quarter turn. Thread tape is not in the box, and it is up to you.

Look inside each nut before it goes on. Check each washer sits flat, not folded or crooked.

If a thread will not start turning with your fingers, stop and email us. Never force it.

Anything hand-tight can loosen over time. Check every joint after the first day, and again after a week.

The water is cold. It is the same water that fills your tank, so start with a light press.

Check your toilet first

A toilet without a tank, the kind with a lever on a metal pipe, is not a match. Neither is a toilet with no supply hose coming from the wall. And if you want warm water, this kit runs cold, from the tank’s own line.

What it costs next to a plumber’s visit

The Fresh Basin kit is $49.99: the sprayer, the hose, the T-valve, the holder and the step-by-step install card with drawings. Two bathrooms are $79.99. A plumber’s visit to fit one can cost more than the kit.

Three questions people ask before they fit one

Will it leak?

A hand-tight joint can loosen over time. Check each one after the first day and after a week, and give it a quarter turn if it weeps. A joint that will not stop dripping is covered by the 60-day test.

Is the water cold?

Yes. It is the same cold water that fills your tank, with no heater. A light press is plenty to start.

Will it fit my toilet?

It is made for a toilet with a tank and a supply hose from the wall. Every thread on the T-valve is G1/2, as listed by the maker. Each joint should start turning with your fingers; if one will not, stop and email us before you force anything. If it does not suit your bathroom, the 60-day test covers it.
